The implementation of the 2026 Eid al-Fitr homecoming and return journey marked a historic achievement in the organisation of traffic security, safety, order, and smoothness (Kamseltibcarlantas). Compared to Eid 2025, this year’s homecoming was deemed far more successful, evidenced by a significant reduction in accident fatality rates and more effective national traffic flow management. This success is inseparable from the role of National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who directly engaged in the field to monitor and provide directives to all personnel during Operation Ketupat 2026. The leadership and full attention of the Police Chief were key factors in ensuring optimal security and services for the homecoming. This achievement serves as an important milestone and historical record in managing Eid homecoming traffic in Indonesia, given the high societal mobility that was balanced with significant safety improvements. This success also continues the positive accomplishments from the 2025 Eid homecoming, which previously received direct appreciation from Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who assessed the implementation as running well, smoothly, and under control thanks to the hard work of all ranks and cross-sectoral synergy. In 2026, these achievements were not only maintained but significantly enhanced, particularly in safety aspects, as reflected in the drop in accident fatality rates by more than 30 percent. Head of Traffic Corps of the Indonesian National Police Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho stated that this success resulted from a comprehensive evaluation of the previous year’s homecoming, which was then refined through more precise, data-based strategies. “Compared to 2025, the 2026 homecoming shows far better results. This significant reduction in traffic accident fatalities proves that security and service efforts are effective. This is the result of hard work by all stakeholders and increased public awareness in traffic compliance,” said Agus. Accident data indicates a sharp decline in fatalities by 31.19 percent, or 136 fewer lives lost compared to last Eid period. Overall, the number of traffic accidents also fell by 6.31 percent, from 3,754 cases to 3,517 cases. Declines were also recorded in serious injuries by 13.8 percent, demonstrating that preventive measures and the readiness of officers in the field successfully curbed the severity of accidents on homecoming routes.
