Eid al-Fitr as a Momentum to Maintain Harmony

South Kalimantan Governor Muhidin has urged the public to maintain harmony despite differences in determining the date for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. He made this statement after performing communal Eid prayers at the Sabilal Muhtadin Grand Mosque in Banjarmasin on Saturday (21/3/2026).

Muhidin assessed that differences in methods for determining the start of Shawwal, whether through hilal sighting or other methods, are commonplace in Indonesia and internationally.

“Differences are normal. The important thing is that the public believes in their chosen guidance, whether from organisations, government, or personal convictions. There is no need to debate it,” said Muhidin, accompanied by Deputy Governor Hasnuryadi Sulaiman and South Kalimantan Provincial Secretary Muhammad Syarifuddin.

This year’s Eid prayer at the Sabilal Muhtadin Grand Mosque was observed with great solemnity. Muhidin noted an extraordinary increase in public enthusiasm, with worshippers filling the entire mosque area and courtyard.

“This is extraordinary; the public attendance is very high, nearly filling all spaces. We appreciate this year’s devotional worship, supported by the imam’s excellent recitation,” he added.

For Muhidin, Eid al-Fitr should serve as a momentum for Muslims to reflect after completing a month of fasting. He hopes the spirit of worship cultivated during Ramadan can be continuously enhanced in daily life.

“This reminds us that we still have shortcomings and sins. May we continue to improve our worship and end our lives in a good state (husnul khatimah),” stated Muhidin.

In agreement, the Head of the South Kalimantan Ministry of Religious Affairs Office, Muhammad Tambrin, also invited worshippers to make Eid al-Fitr a means to strengthen ties of brotherhood and mutual forgiveness, without exacerbating existing differences in society.

The South Kalimantan Provincial Government ensures that the security and order situation during the 2026 Lebaran celebrations in the Land of Lambung Mangkurat is running conducive, safe, and smooth.
