Eid al-Fitr 2026 Train Passengers Reach Highest Level in 5 Years
PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI recorded the highest number of passengers during Eid al-Fitr 2026 over the Eid transport period from 2022 to 2025. KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication Anne Purba stated that during the Eid transport period from 11 March to 1 April 2026, the number of long-distance and local train passengers totalled 5,087,458 people. Meanwhile, in Eid 2025 there were 4,707,628 people and in 2024 it reached 4,398,125 people. Then in the 2023 Eid period there were 3,841,954 passengers and in 2022 there were 4,388,034 people. “The high passenger movement was well served through readiness of facilities, infrastructure, and maintained coordination,” said Anne in a written statement on Saturday, 4 April 2026. Anne added that train arrival punctuality also improved with an achievement of 98.86 percent this year, while in 2025 it was 97.23 percent. Likewise, departure punctuality also increased in 2026 reaching 99.80 percent, while in 2025 it was at 99.69 percent. On several dates, continued Anne, daily occupancy was recorded above 140 percent. She gave an example on 22 March 2026 with 242,808 people and occupancy of 150.7 percent from a capacity of 161,100 seats. Then on 23 March 2026 there were 247,019 passengers or 154.1 percent from 160,252 seats. Occupancy over 100 percent refers to long-distance train journeys. “One seat can be used by more than one passenger in one journey through the mechanism of boarding and alighting at intermediate stations,” she said. Furthermore, KAI Commuter services carried 24,500,604 passengers during the 2026 Eid transport period, up from 22,173,724 passengers the previous year. That number is also claimed to be the highest achievement over the last five years. “We will continue to conduct evaluations and improvements so that services remain safe, comfortable, and on time for every journey,” said Anne Purba.
