Eid al-Fitr 2026: Public Transport Passengers Increase by 11 Percent
BEKASI, KOMPAS.com — Passenger movements on public transport during the Eid al-Fitr 2026 homecoming and return flows were recorded to have increased by 11.11 percent compared to the same period last year.
Based on monitoring results from the Integrated Eid Transport Command Post 2026 from 13–24 March, or H-8 to H+3, public transport passenger departures reached 15,397,417 people.
The realisation of public transport vehicle movements also experienced an increase of 4.07 percent compared to last year.
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stated that the number could still potentially increase as the return flow continues over the weekend of 28–29 March 2026.
“These data are still dynamic because the calculation process is ongoing until 30 March 2026. We still see potential for a peak return flow on 28-29 March 2026,” Dudy said in an official statement from the Ministry of Transport, quoted on Thursday (26/3/2026).
This step is considered important to reduce traffic density during the anticipated peak return flow on 28–29 March 2026.
“It is hoped that the public can take advantage of this so that we can reduce the density that we predict will occur on 28 or 29 March,” Dudy said.
Dudy also urged the public to plan their journeys more wisely so that the return flow can proceed safely and comfortably.
According to him, with good travel time management, traffic density is expected to be spread over a longer period.
