Eid al-Fitr 2026: Flight Movements at Kualanamu Increase by 1.2 Percent
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - During the Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr holiday period in 2026, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (Ditjen Hubud) of the Ministry of Transportation carried out air transport supervision activities at Kualanamu International Airport, Medan.
“This step is taken to ensure that flight operations continue to meet safety, security, and optimal service standards,” said the Head of the Medan Region II Airport Authority Office, Asri Santosa, in an official statement, quoted on Sunday (22/3/2026).
Asri stated that the air transport supervision was conducted from 16 to 18 March 2026.
Therefore, the supervision is carried out continuously to ensure that all aviation service providers operate in accordance with regulations.
During the activity, the Airworthiness Inspector of Ditjen Hubud conducted intensive ramp inspections (safety inspections) on aircraft.
From 16 to 18 March 2026, a total of 40 aircraft inspections were recorded.
In addition, officers also ensured the availability and functionality of safety equipment inside the aircraft and checked the completeness and validity of the flight crew’s licences.
“This step aims to ensure that every operating aircraft meets the established safety standards and provides security guarantees for passengers,” he said.
Based on data from the Eid al-Fitr Transport Post 2026 at Kualanamu International Airport, cumulatively from 16 to 18 March 2026, there were 509 flight movements, an increase of around 1.2 percent compared to the same period last year with 503 flights.
Meanwhile, cargo movements were recorded at 501 tonnes, a decrease of around 28.1 percent compared to the same period last year at 697 tonnes, with operations remaining stable to support logistics distribution during the Eid al-Fitr transport period.
“During the Eid al-Fitr transport period, domestic routes to North Sumatra via Kualanamu International Airport remain one of the main choices for the public to return to their hometowns. This is evident from the consistently high passenger movements in recent days,” said Asri.
Overall, flight operations are still running well and are able to accommodate the public’s mobility needs ahead of the peak Eid al-Fitr transport flow in 2026.
