Cianjur (ANTARA) - The Cianjur Resort Police in West Java recorded around 551,750 vehicles entering and exiting via the main routes in Cianjur during the Eid al-Fitr 2026 homecoming and return traffic, which also spurred an increase in local economic turnover.

The Cianjur Resort Police Traffic Unit Head, AKP Aang Andi Suhandi, stated in Cianjur on Thursday that of the hundreds of thousands of vehicles, the majority passed through the Cianjur-Bogor border with 208,776 vehicles during the homecoming and return flows.

Motorcyclists dominated the traffic at the Cianjur-Bogor border with 123,468 units, a figure based on the recapitulation of vehicle entries and exits from 20-25 March 2026.

In detail, of the 551,750 vehicles entering and exiting Cianjur, 208,776 units passed through the Cianjur-Bogor border, 158,064 units through the Cianjur-Bandung border, and 184,910 units through the Cianjur-Sukabumi border.

“Vehicles passing through were dominated by motorcycles numbering 123,468 units and cars reaching 40,943 units, with the highest vehicle volume occurring on 24 March 2026,” he said.

The Resort Police recorded that throughout the Eid al-Fitr 2026 homecoming and return season, the number of accidents temporarily resulted in eight fatalities and 16 injuries, a decline compared to the previous year.

Aang also mentioned that economic turnover along the main routes in Cianjur increased because most homecomers rested at stalls and eateries abundant along the homecoming routes.

“This naturally impacts the economy as centres of crowds, stalls, eateries, and hotels in the Puncak-Cianjur area were bustling with homecomers and tourists during the holiday,” he said.

The economic boost in Cianjur was confirmed by the Chairman of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Cianjur, Nano Indrapraja, who noted the highest occupancy rates on the second day after Eid al-Fitr, averaging 70%, with some reaching 80%, particularly at starred and renowned hotels in the Puncak-Cipanas area.

“We predict occupancy rates will remain high until the end of March as the long Eid holiday concludes on Sunday, 29 March, but the numbers will not exceed the previous week,” he said.

The hotel occupancy rate during the 2026 Eid holiday was said by Nano to be the same as the previous year.
