Eid al-Adha Reflection: Haedar Nashir Urges Gen Z and Alpha to Avoid Laziness

JAKARTA – The Chairman of Muhammadiyah’s Central Leadership (PP), Haedar Nashir, has urged Gen Z and Alpha generations to avoid laziness and slacking off.

He made the statement during Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriyah/2026 CE reflections on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

Haedar expressed hope that the Eid al-Adha observance would cultivate piety leading to righteous, positive living habits for the younger generations.

“Young people should not be lazy or idle, act impulsively, indulge in extravagance, harm others, be arrogant, or violate religious ethics and morals,” Haedar said.

“Instead, they should read widely, expand knowledge, master skills, sharpen intelligence, be kind to parents, respect others, be self-reliant, maintain strong work ethics, practice frugality, and uphold noble moral conduct,” he added.

He also advised that spiritually pious individuals should have a contented outlook and avoid greed for worldly luxuries.

“With this nation grappling with social inequality, where a small elite controls most of the country’s wealth,” he noted.

He stated that corruption, social conflicts, and opportunistic behaviour remain common.

According to Haedar, the root cause is egoistic greed driven by insatiable desires, indicating a lack of spiritual piety.

Therefore, Eid al-Adha should serve as a moment for reflection to become individuals with genuine piety in real life.

If spiritual piety is embodied in daily life, Haedar is confident that a culture of righteousness will flourish, spreading goodness in personal, family, societal, national, and global spheres.

“May Allah Subhanahu wa taala bestow His mercy and blessings through this Eid al-Adha observance for the welfare and prosperity of the Indonesian nation,” he concluded.
