Eid al-Adha Prayer at Istiqlal Mosque Highlights Eco-Theology and Humanity Theme

JAKARTA – The Eid al-Adha prayer for 1447 AH at Jakarta’s Istiqlal Mosque on Tuesday (27 May 2026) featured the theme ‘The Spirit of Sacrifice: Caring for Nature and Humanity’, aligning with the Ministry of Religious Affairs’ overarching theme of eco-theology and the theology of love. Prof Hamdan Juhannis, rector of Alauddin State Islamic University (UIN) Makassar, delivered the sermon titled ‘Strengthening the Spirit of Sacrifice, Caring for Nature and Humanity’. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka attended the prayer alongside thousands of Muslims, with strict security measures in place while maintaining order and a conducive atmosphere. Other attendees included Coordinating Minister for Food Security Zulkifli Hasan, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar, and several foreign ambassadors, including Palestine’s Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulfattah A.K. Al-Sattiri. Attendees were required to maintain order, ensure comfort, and adhere to health protocols.
