Eid al-Adha Prayer at Istiqlal Highlights Ecotheology and Humanity Theme

The Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriyah prayer at Jakarta’s Istiqlal Mosque on Tuesday, 27 May 2026, centred on the theme ‘Spirits of Sacrifice Caring for Nature and Humanity’, in line with the Ministry of Religion’s focus on ecotheology and theological love.

UIN Alauddin Makassar Rector Prof Hamdan Juhannis delivered the sermon titled ‘Establishing the Qurban Spirit, Caring for Nature and Humanity’ as khatib.

Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka attended the prayers alongside thousands of Muslims under tight security, which remained orderly and peaceful. Other attendees included Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan, Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf, Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar, and Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulfattah A.K. Al-Sattiri, among other diplomats.

Attendees were required to comply with health and safety protocols to ensure order and comfort at Southeast Asia’s largest mosque.
