Eid al-Adha Approaches as Sleman's Essential Commodities Prices Remain Stable
The Sleman Regency government has confirmed that the prices and availability of essential commodities remain relatively stable ahead of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriyah. Although some items have seen price increases, the rises are considered moderate and have not disrupted supply in traditional markets.
To monitor price developments, Sleman’s Industry and Trade Office (Disperindag) conducts regular checks at eight public markets: Sleman, Prambanan, Godean, Tempel, Pakem, Kalasan, Depok, and Cebongan. Daily monitoring by a food price team tracks fluctuations in key commodities.
Head of Disperindag Sleman, RR Mae Rusmi Suryaningsih, stated that most essential goods remained stable in the fourth week of May 2026. “Based on our data, food price stability in Sleman during the fourth week of May compared to the previous week has been well-maintained. Key commodities such as rice, granulated sugar, bulk cooking oil, wheat flour, and beef are currently stable,” she said in Sleman on Monday (25 May).
However, some items saw price hikes, particularly red curly chillies which rose by 19.58%. Minyakita cooking oil increased by 5.17%, shallots by 2.41%, red bird’s eye chillies by 1.5%, and large red chillies by 0.85%. Price surges for chillies around religious holidays are almost an annual pattern, influenced by weather and distribution from production centres.
Despite these increases, Disperindag noted decreases in other staples: garlic fell by 1.97%, chicken by 0.61%, and chicken eggs dropped to Rp25,375 per kilogram.
Mae Rusmi said the local government is preparing for possible price spikes through coordination with the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID). “Should significant price increases occur, Disperindag and TPID will implement market operations to help the public access essential goods at affordable prices while maintaining market balance,” she added.
Special attention is also being paid to monitoring Minyakita distribution, a sensitive commodity in traditional markets. Beyond price stability, the government ensures sufficient supply of essentials until Eid al-Adha. Regular market monitoring is crucial to prevent shortages and price speculation that could burden residents.
With rising demand ahead of the holiday, stable food prices remain vital for maintaining purchasing power. Authorities have been urged to remain vigilant against sudden price hikes, especially in horticultural commodities which are most prone to market volatility.
