JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI, Hidayat Nur Wahid, has expressed his appreciation for the agreement reached by all Islamic organisations during the isbat session to determine Eid al-Adha 2026.

According to him, the simultaneous determination of Eid al-Adha 2026 demonstrates a spirit of unity that remains strong despite differences in methods used to determine the beginning and end of the Hijri month.

“Despite diverse backgrounds of organisations and differing methodologies regarding the determination of the start and end of months in the Hijri calendar, we are still one. One community, one nation, one country,” said Hidayat after attending the isbat session to determine 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijri at the Ministry of Religious Affairs office, Jakarta, Sunday (May 17, 2026).

In addition to highlighting the importance of unity, Hidayat also reminded Muslims to make the most of the first ten days of Zulhijah by increasing their good deeds.

He quoted a hadith from Prophet Muhammad SAW about the virtues of these days.

“There is no act of worship more beloved by Allah than acts of worship performed during the first ten days of the month of Zulhijah,” said the politician from the Justice and Prosperity Party.

“We also invite all Indonesian citizens, especially Muslims, to maximise these first ten days to increase good deeds, strengthen ties, and make improvements for ourselves, for the nation, for the country, and for the community,” he added.

The member of Commission VIII of the DPR hopes that the spirit of unity will continue to be maintained despite differences in views regarding the determination of the beginning of the Hijri month.

“Even if we have differences, in reality, we are still one. Fiqh al-ikhtilaf, the jurisprudence for us to unite, is very important,” said Hidayat.

The decision was made during the isbat session after the government combined the results of hisab and rukyatul hilal from 88 monitoring points spread throughout Indonesia.

Previously, the Central Executive Board of Muhammadiyah had also announced that Eid al-Adha 2026 would fall on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
