Eid al-Adha 2026: IKN Authority Prepares 37 Healthy Sacrificial Animals
The IKN Authority has prepared 37 sacrificial animals, comprising 28 cattle and nine goats, in healthy condition in line with Islamic Sharia law and fit for consumption for the 2026 Eid al-Adha celebrations in IKN. This was stated by IKN Authority’s Basic Services Director, Suwito, to Media Indonesia on Monday (25 May) in IKN, Sepaku District, Penajam Paser Utara Regency, East Kalimantan. He explained that to ensure the sacrificial animals meet Islamic requirements, including being healthy and free from defects, his team, in collaboration with Sepaku Animal Health Unit, conducted thorough health checks to guarantee the animals are safe for public consumption. ‘Each sacrificial animal has been vaccinated and treated for diseases such as Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD),’ he said. He added that FMD and LSD are major contagious diseases affecting cattle and buffaloes, which can severely impact livestock farmers’ economies, necessitating preventive measures. He noted that all sacrificial animals were donated by the IKN Authority Chief, its employees, local communities, and state-owned and private companies in IKN. Additionally, two cattle were donated by President Prabowo Subianto and one by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. ‘President Prabowo Subianto provided two cattle weighing approximately 950 kilograms each, while Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka donated one weighing around 850 kilograms. Meanwhile, IKN Authority Chief Basuki Hadimuljono and his family contributed one cow weighing about 145 kilograms,’ he said. Suwito revealed that of the total 37 animals, 13 cattle will be distributed to communities via mosque committees that requested assistance, while the remaining 15 cattle and nine goats will be slaughtered at the National Mosque. ‘The collected beef will be distributed to eligible recipients by the National Mosque’s sacrificial committee,’ he concluded. The presidential community assistance will be delivered to Al Tsumairi Grand Mosque, located on Mataram Street, Sumurpanggang Village, Margadana Subdistrict. On Eid al-Adha this year, the foundation projects managing approximately 35 to 40 cattle and 120 to 130 goats. In addition to adequate slaughter facilities, the slaughterhouse ensures the sacrificial meat meets the ASUH principle: Safe, Healthy, Whole, and Halal. According to livestock department reports across East Java’s regencies and cities, the total available sacrificial livestock for 2026 reached 2,055,978 heads.
