Eid al-Adha 1447 AH: Kemensos Distributes 295 Sacrificial Animals
Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) conducted sacrificial rites across various regions in Indonesia, including at Masjid Al Hikmah in Salemba, Central Jakarta. During the celebration of Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijri/2026 Gregorian, Kemensos, in collaboration with its Technical Implementation Units (UPT), People’s Schools, and partners, distributed 295 sacrificial animals. Edi Sucipto, Secretary of the Sacrifice Committee and also Secretary of Kemensos’ KORPRI, stated that the distribution was a demonstration of social concern and the spirit of sharing. The meat was to be distributed to civil servants, beneficiaries, students, and the wider community in need. Edi said in a written statement on Wednesday (27 May 2026): “We have documented that at the central ministry office, civil servants from Grade I and II, PPPK staff equivalent to Grade 1 and 2 ASN, and others entitled to it, including security personnel, drivers, cleaners, and technicians.” Not only staff, but local vendors at Kemensos’ canteen also received meat packages. At regional centres, integrated centres, the Social Welfare Polytechnic (Poltekesos), the Central Social Welfare Education and Training Centre (BBPPKS), and People’s Schools, the sacrificial animals were distributed to staff, beneficiaries, students, and the needy. For Eid al-Adha 1447 H, the Kemensos central office gathered seven cattle; regional centres and integrated centres collected 23 cattle and 78 goats/sheep. BBPPKS and Poltekesos contributed three cattle, two goats, and two sheep. People’s Schools collected 145 animals: 10 cattle, 129 goats, and six sheep. Kemensos partners, including the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara) and the National Zakat Agency (Baznas), also facilitated distributions through Kemensos. Baznas provided 31 goats via several People’s Schools, while Himbara contributed four cattle. In total, 295 sacrificial animals were collected, comprising 47 cattle and 248 goats and sheep. Slaughter was conducted in phases at various locations, including UPT facilities, People’s Schools, and slaughterhouses. At the Kemensos central office, slaughter took place on Wednesday (27 May) at a slaughterhouse in Tapos, Depok, with meat distributed that same evening. Nur, a Soto Betawi vendor at the Kemensos canteen, was among those queuing happily. Nur expressed delight at receiving meat this year ahead of the long holiday. “I’m queuing for the meat, which will help for the six-day break. We’ll find the spices and rice,” Nur said. “I’ll make Semur Betawi,” he added. Social solidarity was also evident across People’s Schools nationwide, which collected 145 sacrificial animals. Distributions by these schools served as lessons in compassion, mutual assistance, and sharing with local communities.
