PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) recorded positive performance during the Eid 2026 transport period by serving more than 5 million customers. The high mobility of the public during the homecoming and return flow periods was deemed to have been well anticipated through operational readiness and increased service capacity.

Based on company data, during the Eid 2026 period, from 11 March to 1 April 2026, KAI served 5,087,458 long-distance and local train passengers. This figure represents an 8.07% increase compared to the Eid 2025 period, which reached 4,707,628 passengers.

KAI Vice President of Corporate Communication, Anne Purba, stated that the surge in passenger numbers this year reflects growing public trust in the increasingly reliable rail transport mode.

“This trust serves as a foundation for us to continue maintaining punctuality, strengthening service capacity, and ensuring that train travel becomes the primary choice for the public,” Anne said in an official statement on Friday (3/4).

In detail, long-distance train services recorded 4,246,274 passengers with an occupancy rate of 118.9% from a capacity of 3,571,760 seats. Meanwhile, local trains served 841,184 passengers with 90.7% occupancy from a capacity of 926,936 seats.

Compared to the previous year, the number of long-distance train passengers increased by around 8.45% from 3,915,546 passengers. Local trains grew by 6.20% from 792,082 passengers.

Passenger growth also occurred in several operational regions. Daop 5 Purwokerto recorded the highest increase with 460,933 passengers, up 11.7%. Followed by Daop 4 Semarang with 589,313 passengers (up 10.0%) and Daop 6 Yogyakarta with 581,418 passengers (growth of 8.5%).

KAI’s operational performance during the Eid 2026 transport period was also supported by high punctuality rates. The company recorded a 99.80% on-time departure rate and 98.86% for arrivals.

To anticipate the surge in demand, KAI also introduced a series of additional economy trains on the Lempuyangan–Pasar Senen round-trip route. This service recorded high occupancy, 127% and 125% in both directions respectively.

In addition, KAI supported the Free Motorcycle Homecoming programme organised by the Directorate General of Railways by serving 48,740 homecomers as part of efforts to improve public travel safety.

Among the popular long-distance trains for passengers include KA Joglosemarkerto on the Solo Balapan–Semarang Tawang route, KA Airlangga on the Pasar Senen–Surabaya Pasar Turi route, and KA Jayakarta on the Surabaya Gubeng–Pasar Senen route.

KAI views this year’s Eid transport achievement as a strong indicator that rail transport is increasingly favoured by the public, while also affirming the importance of strengthening services to face mobility surges in future periods.
