Eid 2026 Homecoming and Return Flows Claimed to be the Highest in History
JAKARTA – The 2026 Eid homecoming and return flows have recorded a new milestone in Indonesian public mobility. The National Traffic Police Corps noted the highest surge in vehicle movements throughout Operation Ketupat, both in daily volume and total movements. Head of the National Traffic Police Corps Agus Suryonugroho stated that this year’s Operation Ketupat ran smoothly thanks to the contributions of all involved parties. He added that this year’s achievements even surpassed previous periods, although evaluations for future improvements remain necessary. “Regarding the indicators of success and of course there are some notes that we may need to improve. In 2025, Operation Ketupat was quite successful; last year in 2026, we increased it further,” Agus said. “Looking at the challenges or predictions and projections that the movement of people, society, goods, and vehicles surveyed would decrease, but in fact it increased from 143 million vehicles to 147 million vehicles, including the projected vehicle mobility movements counted crossing toll gates leaving Jakarta,” he said. Data shows around 3.5 million vehicles left Jakarta heading to various regions such as Trans Java, West Java, and Trans Sumatra. All these movements were successfully managed well through various traffic engineering strategies. Furthermore, he emphasised that this year marks the highest record in history. The peak homecoming flow recorded figures never seen before. “As the first note, the highest homecoming flow in history to date, one day leaving Jakarta numbering 270,315, this is the highest and most numerous in the history of peak homecoming flows so far and it has been managed well,” he said. “The return flow is also the highest in history numbering 256,338 vehicles; the peak homecoming flow has an increase of 4.62 percent. Last year 250,000 vehicles, this year 270,000 for the homecoming flow. The peak last year 223,000 vehicles, this year 256,000 vehicles, and this is extraordinary,” he said.
