Eid 2026: 8.2 Million People Predicted to Travel to DIY Province
A total of 8.2 million people are predicted to travel into Yogyakarta Special Region during the Eid holiday exodus this year. These millions of people are estimated to arrive gradually throughout the mudik period and will use various modes of transport.
This was announced by the Regional Police Chief of DIY, Inspector General Anggoro Sukartono, following a meeting of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of DIY ahead of Eid 1447 H at the Kepatihan complex in Yogyakarta city today.
“Based on data from the Ministry of Transportation, Yogyakarta Special Region has become a destination for population mobility during the peak of the Eid exodus, which is predicted to reach 8.2 million people,” explained Anggoro at the Kepatihan complex.
“The 8.2 million figure is based on a survey by the Ministry of Transportation and does not arrive all at once, but rather based on survey results calculating the number of private vehicle users and train passengers at Tugu and Lempuyangan stations,” he added.
Anggoro continued, noting that the majority of mudik travellers still originate from the Jakarta metropolitan area (Jabodetabek). To this end, private vehicles heading to DIY have been monitored since the Kalikangkung toll gate in Semarang, Central Java.
“We predict that on H-5 and H-3 before Eid, the incoming traffic flow will be dense,” said Anggoro.
“Security for the Eid holiday will be prioritised through Operasi Ketupat Progo 2026, which will be carried out simultaneously from 13 to 25 March,” he added.
