Egyptian Professor: The Quran is the Foundation of Civilisational Change
Quranic expert from Egypt, Prof Ahmad Isa Al-Masarawy, has asserted that the rise and fall of a civilisation is highly dependent on the quality of the people who build it. According to him, the Quran has provided the foundation for civilisational change through human development based on knowledge, ethics, and divine values.
This was conveyed by Prof Al-Masarawy while speaking at the World Quranic Civilization Forum (WQCF) 1448 H at the SMESCO Indonesia Exhibition Hall, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (16/6/2026).
In his presentation, Prof Al-Masarawy stated that the Quran’s vision in building civilisation centres on three main points, with the primary emphasis on the close relationship between humans and civilisation. “Quranic civilisation is closely related to humans. Civilisational change occurs along with changes that occur within humans themselves,” said Prof Al-Masarawy.
He quoted the word of Allah SWT in the Quran which states, “Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves.” According to him, this verse is the main foundation in understanding the progress and decline of a civilisation.
Prof Al-Masarawy explained that throughout history, various civilisations have experienced ups and downs in line with changes occurring within their societies. The more humans live their lives based on the methods and values taught by the Quran, the higher the civilisation they can build.
Conversely, when humans stray from the guidance of the Quran, the civilisation they possess will experience decline. “We witness for ourselves how humanity falls behind when it moves away from the Quranic method and Quranic civilisation,” he said.
According to him, the core of civilisational renewal lies in building humans correctly and comprehensively. The most important investment in building civilisation, he said, is not merely in material aspects, but in shaping humans who possess the moral values and civilisation of the Quran.
“The real investment for civilisation is to build humans correctly based on the values of Quranic civilisation and ethics,” he said.
