Egypt, US call for implementation of Gaza ceasefire agreement

Egypt and the United States are urging the warring parties in the Gaza Strip to fulfil all provisions of the ceasefire agreement in order to maintain regional stability, the office of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said on Sunday (16/8).

Earlier the same day, President Sisi met with US Special Envoy Jared Kushner in the city of El-Alamein, Egypt. Also present at the meeting were Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Head of Egyptian Intelligence Hassan Rashad.

“Emphasis was placed on the need for all parties to fulfil their obligations under the agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip, which was reached at the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit in October 2025,” the office said in a statement following the talks.

Sisi also stressed the importance of resolving the crisis in the Middle East and strengthening regional and international security.

Meanwhile, Kushner conveyed greetings from US President Donald Trump to Sisi and affirmed the importance of coordination between Cairo and Washington.

Kushner added that Egypt remains a key partner of the United States in the Middle East.

On 9 October 2025, Israel and Hamas — through the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, the US and Turkiye — agreed to implement the first phase of the peace plan proposed by Trump. The following day, a ceasefire came into effect in Gaza.

Under the agreement, Israeli forces withdrew to a line referred to as the “Yellow Line”, but retained control over more than 50 per cent of the Palestinian enclave’s territory.

At the end of July, the Peace Council announced Hamas’s willingness to agree to a roadmap for implementing the subsequent phases of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

The plan includes the gradual transfer of control of the Gaza Strip to the National Committee for Gaza Administration (NCAG), as well as the establishment of a special body to monitor violations that may be committed by either Hamas or Israel.
