Egypt seeks water management cooperation with China

Cairo (ANTARA) - Egypt sees vast prospects for cooperation with China in water management, stated Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam, according to Xinhua news.

Responding to a question from Xinhua during a press conference, Sewilam said that China possesses advanced technology and experience that could contribute to Egypt’s efforts to modernise water management.

“China has much to offer,” he remarked, noting that support from the leadership of both nations provides opportunities to strengthen collaboration in this field.

A Chinese delegation is expected to attend Cairo Water Week this coming October, Sewilam said, adding that Egypt is opening channels for discussion and cooperation.

Egypt is among the countries in the world experiencing the most severe water scarcity. More than 98 per cent of Egypt’s renewable water resources originate from outside its borders, according to Sewilam.

The Minister stated that Egypt is promoting digital transformation and advanced technology within the water sector as part of its efforts to ensure more efficient water usage.
