Egypt, Peace Envoy Discuss Next Phase of Gaza Ceasefire

Istanbul (ANTARA) - Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Peace Committee envoy Nikolay Mladenov on Sunday (2/8) discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip as well as arrangements for the subsequent phase of the ceasefire plan.

During the telephone conversation, the two officials reviewed negotiations aimed at completing the implementation of commitments under the Gaza plan of US President Donald Trump.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty emphasised “the importance of fulfilling all commitments under the first phase of the plan, including ensuring the full, safe, and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid and the withdrawal of Israel from Gaza, followed by swift recovery and reconstruction.”

The two sides also discussed arrangements for the subsequent phase.

Egypt stressed that the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza must begin carrying out its duties from within the territory “in order to manage the transition period efficiently and preserve the unity of the Palestinian territories.”

He also urged all parties to fulfil their obligations under the plan and to refrain from taking steps that could undermine its implementation.

Such efforts, he said, would help achieve security and stability and pave the way for the restoration of stability across the region.

On Friday (31/7), the Peace Committee and US President Donald Trump announced an agreement to implement the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire.

The committee said Hamas had accepted a detailed roadmap. Israel has not officially commented on the proposal.
