Egypt condemns Israel's military escalation in Lebanon

Cairo - Egypt condemned Israel’s military escalation in Lebanon following its expansion of ground operations into southern Lebanon. In its statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry described the action as ‘blatant aggression’ reflecting Israel’s intent to create a new military reality on the ground, which it deemed a violation of international law, norms, and the UN Charter. Egypt reaffirmed its rejection of any violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and expressed support for the country’s unity, national institutions, and territorial integrity. The Egyptian government also warned that Israel’s military expansion could trigger wider regional escalation, stressing that the UN Security Council and relevant international parties must take firm steps to halt the aggression. On the same day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated he had ordered his military to deepen and expand control over areas held by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. A ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon took effect in April. Despite this, Israel has carried out near-daily attacks in Lebanon, while Hezbollah has launched several strikes against Israeli military positions.
