EGP to Boost Indonesia-UK Trade and Investment
The Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri, affirmed that the Economic Growth Partnership (EGP) between Indonesia and the UK is a crucial driver for increasing trade and investment between the two countries.
This strategic cooperation between Indonesia and the UK aims to strengthen bilateral relations and boost economic and trade growth in both countries. The initiative represents an important milestone in deepening a more structured, concrete, sustainable, and future-oriented collaboration.
This was conveyed by the Deputy Minister during her speech at ‘the Launch of the UK-Indonesia EGP’ in Jakarta, Wednesday (February 25, 2026).
“The EGP is a practical and future-oriented cooperation instrument. This partnership is expected to provide tangible, measurable benefits and certainty for businesses in developing trade and investment between the two countries,” said Deputy Minister Roro, quoted from a press release from the Ministry of Trade, Thursday (February 26).
Deputy Minister Roro added that the EGP covers various priority sectors, including trade, services, the digital economy, investment, strengthening supply chains, green transition and sustainable development, infrastructure, transportation, and energy transformation, the digital economy and innovation, as well as education and human resource development. These sectors are considered to have great potential to drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth.
The EGP, continued Deputy Minister Roro, is designed as a collaboration platform that not only strengthens government-to-government relations but also encourages the active involvement of businesses and other stakeholders. With a more comprehensive approach, the EGP is expected to address global challenges while opening up new opportunities in the dynamic global economy.
On the same occasion, Deputy Minister Roro also emphasized the importance of creating a conducive business climate to support the successful implementation of the EGP. She highlighted the need for greater access, regulatory certainty, policy predictability, and legal guarantees for businesses. According to her, investment and trade expansion can grow optimally if supported by a stable policy foundation that provides long-term certainty.
Furthermore, Deputy Minister Roro also stated that the EGP is a momentum to optimize various existing economic cooperation instruments between Indonesia and the UK. According to her, the EGP can be the beginning of other economic cooperation in various sectors, including cooperation in the development of the digital economy, strengthening the promotion of trade and investment between the two countries, and is expected to open up opportunities for the formation of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Furthermore, Deputy Minister Roro also emphasized the importance of utilizing various trade promotion platforms, including the Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) as a means of bringing together Indonesian businesses with businesses from various countries, including the UK. According to her, the TEI is able to boost the realization of sustainable trade contracts so that strengthening promotion through this platform is an important part of the implementation of the EGP so that the cooperation that is built is not only at the policy level, but also continues to concrete business transactions.
With synergy between cross-sectoral policies, trade facilitation, infrastructure development and digitalization, and integrated trade promotion, the EGP is expected to significantly increase the value of bilateral trade and investment. This more structured collaboration is also expected to strengthen the competitiveness of businesses in both countries.
On this occasion, Deputy Minister Roro was accompanied by the Director of Trade Negotiations for Services and Trade Through Electronic Systems of the Ministry of Trade, Mochamad Rizalu Akbar, and the Director of Market Development and Export Information of the Ministry of Trade, Bayu Wicaksono Putro. Also present were the UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific, Seema Malhotra, the British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Dominic Jermey, and the Deputy for Coordination of Economic and Investment Cooperation of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Edi Prio Pambudi.
