Eggi Sudjana Says TPUA Frozen by Habib Rizieq, Reveals Two Reasons
The management of the Ulema and Activists Defence Team (TPUA) has been officially frozen by its founder and advisory board chairman, Habib Rizieq Shihab. This was disclosed by former TPUA chairman Eggi Sudjana during a visit to the National Police Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim Polri) in South Jakarta.
Eggi explained that the freezing of TPUA was carried out following internal turmoil. As a result, both he and secretary-general Damai Hari Lubis (DHL) are no longer part of TPUA.
“Firstly, regarding the turmoil within TPUA. Secondly, as the founder and patron of TPUA — meaning Habib Rizieq — the TPUA management has been temporarily frozen by Habib Rizieq. The mandate has been revoked, so to speak, and I have willingly handed it over together with DHL, as DHL served as my secretary-general,” Eggi told reporters on Wednesday (18 February 2026).
He stressed that Rizieq Shihab did not dismiss him from TPUA, describing such reports as misleading.
“And let there be no impression that we were sacked by Habib Rizieq or anything like that — that is misinformation, it does not reflect the truth,” he explained.
Eggi said he would continue his activist work through another organisation. The TPUA advisory board had recommended that he join the Defend Islam Coordinator (Korlabi).
“The advisory board asked me whether I wished to continue the struggle in the context of defending Islam. They said: choose either API or Korlabi, which is led by DHL. Given that choice from Habib, I chose Korlabi,” he said.
