Efforts to Strengthen National Energy through Prabowo's Visit to Russia

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - President Prabowo Subianto has concluded his visit to Russia to meet President Vladimir Putin. Energy cooperation between Indonesia and Russia was one of the topics discussed by the two heads of state. “We feel it is very necessary to consult on how we face future situations, especially if we can continue to strengthen cooperation, particularly in the economic and energy sectors,” said Prabowo at the Kremlin Palace on Monday (13/4/2026) local time, quoted from the statement of the Indonesian Government Communication Agency (Bakom). “Almost all areas we agreed on a few months ago have seen rapid progress,” Prabowo stated. Prabowo also said he had met with Russian officials and companies, where productive discussions took place between the two parties. “I just met some Russian officials and some Russian companies. I am very grateful because the discussions were very productive,” Prabowo said. He hopes that Indonesia and Russia can continue to enhance strategic cooperation amid the current geopolitical situation. “Thank you, Your Excellency President Putin, I am the one who is thankful because I was received on such short notice, but amid your busy schedule, you could receive me, I am very grateful,” Prabowo said. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Sugiono revealed that energy cooperation was one of the topics discussed between Prabowo and Putin at the Kremlin Palace. Through this cooperation with Russia, it is hoped to be an effort for Indonesia to strengthen national energy resilience. “The most important thing is cooperation in the energy sector, which is expected to be part of strengthening national energy resilience,” Sugiono said, quoted from the YouTube broadcast of the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday (15/4/2026). Geopolitical developments were also one of the topics discussed between Prabowo and Putin at the Kremlin Palace. “In addition to the bilateral meeting, a tete-a-tete meeting was also held in a lunch format that also discussed several matters related to geopolitical developments that are a concern for both countries,” Sugiono said.
