The Menteng Atas Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste Processing Site (TPS3R) in Jakarta is being continuously optimised as part of efforts to reduce waste at the local level. The facility is said to be capable of processing up to 100 tonnes of waste per day when operating at full capacity, which is expected to reduce the volume of waste sent to final disposal sites while promoting more sustainable waste management. The Jakarta Provincial Government is optimising waste management through TPS3R as an effort to decrease the amount of waste sent to the Bantargebang final processing site. Each TPS3R can reduce the volume of waste sent to Bantargebang by approximately 25 to 50 tonnes per day. There are currently 31 TPS3R facilities in Jakarta, though not all are operating optimally. The optimisation of TPS3R is part of an effort to improve area-based waste management while reducing the waste burden transported to the capital’s final processing site.
