Efficiency, DPR Commission IX Urges BGN to Cancel Electric Motorcycle Procurement
Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission IX, Charles Honoris, has urged the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) to cancel the procurement of electric motorcycles for heads of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG). Charles explained that the primary goal of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme is to improve the nutritional condition of Indonesian children. Therefore, every budget allocation by BGN must align with that main objective. “Budget usage must focus on the primary goal,” Charles told reporters on Friday, 10 April 2026. Additionally, Charles assessed that procuring electric motorcycles amidst the government’s intensified efficiency drive is inappropriate. Therefore, he encouraged the cancellation of this procurement. “However, with this procurement occurring in the midst of the efficiency measures being implemented by the government, it is highly inappropriate, so we are asking BGN to cancel that (electric motorcycle) procurement,” he stated. Commission IX of the House of Representatives, according to Charles, has scheduled to summon the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, on Monday next week to explain the urgency of the electric motorcycle procurement. “So we want to ask later what the purpose is, what the urgency is, and what the basis of the procurement is like,” Charles concluded. Previously reported, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the procurement of electric motorcycles for heads of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) is a result of the 2025 budgeting, and not for this year, 2026. He admitted to having inquired about this with the Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Dadan Hindayana, as it has become a public spotlight amid the government’s aggressive budget efficiency discourse. Therefore, Purbaya emphasised that there is no new electric motorcycle procurement for the MBG programme in 2026. “He (the BGN Head) said that it was indeed last year’s budget, which had already been disbursed somewhat. But for this year, he confirmed there is no new electric motorcycle purchase,” Purbaya said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 8 April 2026. Regarding his rejection of the additional electric motorcycle unit proposal for the MBG programme, Purbaya assured that any remaining procurement that has not yet arrived in Indonesia will be rejected.
