The cost of education has been rising and is not likely to go down, just like prices in general. The state is reportedly suffering financial losses, but government officials are holding seminars at star-rated hotels and having weekends in Bali.
It may be worthwhile for President Megawati Soekarnoputri to note that an elementary school student attempted suicide because his parents could not afford to pay a fee for extracurricular school activities.
Fuel oil prices have been raised in order to subsidize education, but we have no idea where this subsidy will be distributed.
This is all because the President stays in her office and her aides submit nice and neatly worded reports, though field realities are the opposite of what their accounts describe.
