Education, poverty Susilo's concerns

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: Presidential candidate Susilo
Bambang Yudhoyono told Kupang residents on Friday that if he were
elected, he would pay attention to poverty and education in the
East Nusa Tenggara province.

He asserted that both sectors had to be addressed as the
province still lacked 18,000 teachers and some 28 percent of its
total four million residents were still living in dire poverty.

In the campaign, which was attended by some 5,000 residents,
Susilo, a retired four-star general, also promised that he would
raise the budget for the Indonesian Military and National Police,
if he were elected president. -- JP
