Education only for the rich?

From Warta Kota

College enrollment is now under way and it is surprising to
note that several favored state higher educational institutes are
imposing very high fees for admission.

Ironically, these soaring rates are charged as ordinary people
strive to make ends meet, while their children are in bad need of
low-cost education.

Only the elite can afford to pay Rp 50 million to Rp 100
million for college education, given the difficulties being faced
by the greater part of Indonesians today. Is the nation's
education only for the rich?

What about members of the younger generation who are
intellectually more capable but financially constrained? Aren't
they needed to design the nation's technology so that it doesn't
lag too far behind that of other countries?

In my view, the government should take tough action by
imposing punitive measures if necessary, because education is the
right of all citizens and the state should have the aim of
enhancing the nation's intelligence.
