Education Ministry to Map State Primary Schools with Fewer Than 60 Pupils

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is collecting data on state primary schools (SDN) that have fewer than 60 pupils. The data collection is being carried out to address the issue of a number of state primary schools that are experiencing a shortage of new students.

“The ministry is currently collecting data on schools with fewer than 60 pupils,” said Minister Abdul Mu’ti to journalists on Friday (17/7/2026), as reported by detikNews.

Mu’ti has discussed this issue with Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian. He stated that a special meeting will be held to discuss the declining interest in state primary schools.

“I have informally conveyed the issue of the declining number of primary school pupils to the Home Affairs Minister. A special meeting will be held later to discuss this phenomenon,” Mu’ti explained.
