Education Ministry to Build Centralised TV Studio for Distance Learning, Targets Completion This Year

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti announced plans to establish a centralised educational television studio to support distance learning (PJJ) through centralised broadcasts. Mu’ti stated that the studio will be rebuilt in Jakarta, utilising facilities previously used for educational TV broadcasts. “For the centralised studio, we will build it in Jakarta. In the past, we had an educational TV studio, and we will use that studio again,” Abdul Mu’ti said after the MPR Annual Session at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta. According to Abdul Mu’ti, the facility will be renovated and adapted to meet the needs of distance learning. This step is part of the government’s preparations to implement President Prabowo’s directive regarding the development of PJJ. In the initial phase, the educational broadcasts will utilise television facilities located in Jakarta. The programme will subsequently be expanded to other regions through task force units in each area. Abdul Mu’ti confirmed that the educational broadcast material will be delivered by the best teachers according to their competencies and fields of expertise. However, the government is also open to involving foreign experts if specific skills are required that are not yet available domestically. “If necessary for certain expertise, we could request, for example, professional teachers from a particular country to collaborate with us,” Abdul Mu’ti said. He confirmed that the programme to optimise PJJ through educational broadcasts will commence this year. “The teacher studio will begin this year,” the Minister stated. Previously, President Prabowo conveyed plans to build centralised learning studios supported by the best teachers to conduct distance learning. These facilities can be used by thousands of schools to access centrally broadcast learning materials. Prabowo also noted that the material delivered is not limited to certain subjects. The programme will cover various lessons, including foreign languages, which will be taught starting from the primary school level. The President emphasised that the government continues to strive to expand children’s access to quality education, aiming to strengthen their competitiveness when entering the workforce.
