Education Ministry Strengthens Deep Learning Implementation with AI Coding

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is strengthening the implementation of the deep learning approach by incorporating coding and artificial intelligence (AI) to provide memorable, meaningful, and enjoyable teaching and learning activities for both teachers and students. Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti said AI and coding are inseparable parts of supporting the implementation of deep learning, both as standalone subjects and as tools to support the learning process. “AI can be a subject in its own right, but it can also simultaneously support deep learning. AI and coding are essentially one package that can be utilised to make deep learning a success, including the use of interactive flat panels,” Mu’ti said at the launch of the Independent Training for Deep Learning, Coding, and Artificial Intelligence in Jakarta on Thursday. According to Mu’ti, various learning facilities, whether digital technology or other teaching media developed independently by teachers, should support classroom teaching and learning activities and increase the active involvement of students. “Deep learning will eventually be applied to all subjects. All subjects will use a deep learning approach tailored to their respective characteristics. That is why this training is organised for all subject teachers,” Mu’ti said. He added that the deep learning approach aims not only to enable students to answer questions but also to find meaning in the material and develop it beyond the written curriculum. “Thus, the experiences gained by students become an integral part of the learning process. That is why it is important to create an environment that is consistent between the values taught in school and the reality they see in everyday life,” he said.
