Education Ministry offers sustained opportunities for high-achieving students
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has assured that it provides not only appreciation in the form of prizes, but also sustained talent development opportunities for medal-winning students at national level.
Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti said the appreciation is given to medal winners in various national competitions organised by the National Achievement Centre (Puspresnas) of Kemendikdasmen.
“This appreciation forms part of the recognition given to students who have demonstrated dedication, hard work, fighting spirit and achievement in talent competitions, including the National Science Olympiad (OSN),” said Minister Abdul Mu’ti in Jakarta on Monday.
He went on to say that Kemendikdasmen develops and sends high-achieving students to various international competitions, with 79 students serving as the Indonesian delegation in various international events this year.
According to the Minister, those delegates who have competed have won 47 international awards, comprising seven gold, 17 silver, 23 bronze medals and five honourable mentions.
On the same occasion, Head of Puspresnas at Kemendikdasmen, Maria Veronica Irene Herdjiono, added that appreciation and guidance for high achievers does not stop at the provision of prizes or development funds.
Irene said Puspresnas continuously develops talented high achievers so that they have opportunities to take part in international competitions.
“Achievement at national level is not the end of the development process. We continue to accompany talented high achievers so they can grow and gain even broader opportunities,” said Irene.
In addition, long-term support is provided through opportunities to continue their education.
This year, her office recorded 174 prospective recipients of undergraduate scholarships, comprising 171 prospective domestic scholarship recipients and three prospective overseas scholarship recipients, all of whom are winners of competitions facilitated by Puspresnas, including the OSN.
“The OSN is not merely about medals or becoming a champion. The process of taking part in competitions becomes a space for students to develop their abilities and build character, sportsmanship, fighting spirit and the mindset of Indonesia’s excellent generation,” said Irene.
Kemendikdasmen, she continued, is committed to ensuring every student has the opportunity to develop their potential and achieve success through a fair, transparent and integrity-driven process.
Talent development is directed so that today’s achievements can open up opportunities for self-development and education at the next level.
