The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has introduced changes to the Friendly School Environment Introduction (MPLS) programme, including extending the duration to five days and involving student council (OSIS) members at junior and senior high school levels.

Secretary of the Directorate General of Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education, Eko Susanto, stated that there are fundamental changes to this year’s MPLS implementation, as stipulated in Ministerial Regulation Number 12 of 2026. “In the provisions of Permendikdasmen Number 12 of 2026, we regulate that the implementation lasts five days,” Eko said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The 2026 Friendly MPLS will thus have a duration of five days, an increase of two days compared to the previous regulation under Permendikbud Number 18 of 2016 concerning School Environment Introduction for New Students. He noted that the duration can be adjusted for boarding schools, special needs schools (SLB), and special service schools, but must be reported to the local Education Office or the Ministry.

Education units may involve students who are members of the OSIS or the Student Consultative Assembly (MPK) at the junior and senior high school levels. However, he reminded that there are several conditions these students must meet before joining the MPLS committee this year. “OSIS or MPK administrators who assist the committee must primarily have good character and no history of violence, so that the implementation remains safe and positive,” Eko said.

According to the ministerial regulation, the requirements include that the students must be OSIS administrators, MPK members, or extracurricular organisation administrators, and must not have tendencies towards bad behaviour or a history as perpetrators of violence or bullying. If a school does not yet have an OSIS, MPK, or extracurricular organisations, students may still participate in the MPLS committee provided they have academic or non-academic achievements and good interpersonal skills.
