Education Ministry Expands Access to Deep Learning, Coding, and AI Training for Teachers

Efforts to improve the competence of Indonesian teachers are becoming increasingly accessible. If training was previously often constrained by distance, time, and travel costs, teachers from Sabang to Merauke can now learn directly from school or home through the Self-Directed Training on Deep Learning, Coding, and Artificial Intelligence (PM-KKA), available on the Ruang GTK channel within the Rumah Pendidikan application. Through this digital platform, teachers can access learning modules, videos, and material reinforcement sessions with facilitators without having to leave the teaching and learning process at school. This step is part of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s (Kemendikdasmen) effort to expand access to teacher competency development more equitably in order to realise Quality Education for All. The PM-KKA Self-Directed Training was launched by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, at the Teacher and Education Personnel Centre (BGTK) in DKI Jakarta Province on Thursday (9/7). In his remarks, Minister Mu’ti stressed that teachers are agents of learning and agents of civilisation, so improving competence is important to support the presence of professional teachers. “Teachers do not only teach to develop students’ motor skills or abilities. However, the material taught must have values and direction that shape character. A great teacher is not one who knows everything, but one who is willing to learn everything. Digitalisation is the current, and Ruang GTK is the place for improving teacher competence,” Minister Mu’ti asserted. In her report, the Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel, Nunuk Suryani, said the PM-KKA training, which began in 2025, is now being strengthened. While the initial phase focused on preparation and piloting, this year’s main focus is strengthening subject-based implementation. This year’s training also optimises the role of Working Groups, such as the Teacher Working Group (KKG) and the Subject Teacher Deliberation (MGMP), as centres of learning innovation. “We want to ensure that the philosophy of Conscious, Meaningful, and Joyful Deep Learning truly comes to life in classrooms, not just stopping as a concept on paper,” said Director General Nunuk. The 2026 PM-KKA training is implemented through two main pathways. The first is a regular pathway conducted offline through Working Group forums using the Teacher Experimental Training (TET) method. Through this approach, schools become learning laboratories, where teachers design solutions to real classroom challenges, practice them, and then conduct collective reflection with colleagues. The implementation of this pathway utilises the Teacher Learning Day policy held once a week. The second is an online pathway through the Ruang GTK channel on the Rumah Pendidikan application. This pathway is divided into two access forms. The first form is the Self-Directed Training feature, which allows teachers to learn independently anytime and anywhere through modules, learning videos, and material reinforcement by facilitators via webinars. The second form is Blended Training accessed through a Learning Management System (LMS) designed for teachers who need more structured mentoring, combining self-directed learning on the LMS with material reinforcement sessions with facilitators via webinars. With the combination of these two pathways, the 2026 PM-KKA training is targeted to reach more than 300,000 educators and education personnel from 140,000 education units across Indonesia. Kemendikdasmen is committed to continuously expanding access to teacher competency development to make it more equitable and of high quality. Through training that can be accessed offline or online, it is hoped that teachers can master the conceptual foundations of PM-KKA, which will lead to improved learning quality so that the benefits can be felt directly in classrooms throughout Indonesia.
