Education Ministry disburses Rp4.18 billion to restore 71 training centres in Aceh and North Sumatra
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has successfully restored 71 course and training institutes (LKPs) affected by recent flooding in Aceh and North Sumatra as part of efforts to strengthen non-formal education and vocational training services.
Director General of Secondary Education and Special Education at Kemendikdasmen, Tatang Muttaqin, said in a written statement in Jakarta on Friday that the natural disasters in the two regions had not only damaged the physical condition of the institutions but also disrupted the continuity of learning.
“Looking back, the natural disasters in Aceh and North Sumatra damaged buildings, submerged practical equipment, and tested the continuity of learning at the LKPs. But an LKP is not just a physical building that was affected; it is also a space of hope for the nation’s children to acquire skills. In any difficult situation, we must continue to ensure quality education for all, and Kemendikdasmen has disbursed quality improvement assistance amounting to Rp4.18 billion to 71 LKPs,” said Tatang.
Of the 71 LKPs receiving assistance, 49 are in Aceh Province: 21 in Bireuen Regency, 12 in Aceh Tamiang Regency, 10 in Langsa City, and 6 in Lhokseumawe City.
“This disbursement is real capital to restore learning facilities, while strengthening governance and bringing back adaptive learning media in line with the policy of equitable quality and character education based on vocational training,” he said.
On the same occasion, the head of LKP Sakinah, Samsinar, said the ministry’s assistance had helped her institution resume course activities for the community, especially children who cannot continue formal education.
She explained that LKP Sakinah was previously affected by flooding in November 2025, which submerged various facilities, including sewing machines and fashion and beauty equipment.
LKP Sakinah has been helping school dropouts acquire skills that can be developed into businesses, such as sewing and bridal make-up.
Similar support was also received by LKP Rita in Langkat Regency, North Sumatra, which suffered flooding and damage to various learning facilities. The LKP received Rp50 million in assistance, which will be used to replace machines and support training activities for the community.
The head of LKP Rita, Dewi Rita, said the assistance had given her institution renewed enthusiasm to resume learning activities because LKPs are one of the pathways for the community to acquire skills and build self-reliance.
