Education Ministry asks vocational schools to prepare LMS to support student portfolio integration

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has asked vocational high school (SMK) education units to prepare a Learning Management System (LMS) to support the strengthening of the portfolio ecosystem for graduates through the Digiskillbadge platform.

Director of SMK at Kemendikdasmen, Arie Wibowo, said the presence of an LMS is essential to systematically record all student activities and achievements so that they can later be linked to the student’s digital profile on the Digiskillbadge platform.

“To strengthen schools, of course we ask schools to have an LMS. They must have a recorded system, and from that LMS they can produce badges, and those badges can be placed on the Digiskillbadge platform,” said Arie after attending the Digiskillbadge Platform Launch event at the UI Faculty Club, Depok City, West Java Province, on Monday.

The presence of the LMS, he continued, can also serve as a cross-checking mechanism between industry, education units, and professional certification bodies (LSP).

This is important to ensure that the certifications held by students truly reflect the competencies they have mastered.

This situation, Arie said, can ultimately create problems when students enter the workforce.

“Sometimes children who are not competent are simply given certificates. In the end, HRD complains to the ministry,” he said.

With an integrated competency track record, he said industry will be able to trace the origin of certifications and the educational process undertaken by each graduate.

According to him, this mechanism can also encourage schools and LSPs to improve service quality and ensure that certifications are awarded according to the competencies actually possessed by students.
