Yogyakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Education and Culture’s Basic and Secondary Education Directorate (Kemendikdasmen) has praised the achievements in education management in Yogyakarta City, which has consistently surpassed the national average. ‘Our highest appreciation goes to all education personnel in Yogyakarta for the achievements in education management. This is evidenced by the national-leading results of the academic ability test (TKA),’ said Wamendikdasmen Atip Latipulhayat after the Education Jogja 2026 Appreciation event at Embung Giwangan Cultural Park in Yogyakarta, on Thursday. The Education Quality Index (SPM) for Yogyakarta City reached 92.53 in the ‘main completion’ category and ranked first among 514 districts/cities in Indonesia. The award for the SPM education achievement was presented by the Wamendikdasmen to the Head of Dindikpora Yogyakarta. ‘This proves that the policies and approaches implemented by the regional government, as well as the Kemendikdasmen Technical Unit in Yogyakarta, have been correct,’ he said. Atip said Kemendikdasmen has a vision and mission that all programmes are directed to realise quality education. Yogyakarta City Mayor Hasto Wardoyo said that in 2025, the city with these education achievements should not be complacent, but must be truly implemented into practices of quality education. ‘We are grateful that our SPM achievement is the best in Indonesia. We hope not only to be proud of high numbers, but, as the message of the Wamendikdasmen, that the quality of education must be good. Everyone must be of high quality, not only the students and teachers, but we all must be of high quality,’ he said. He noted that the City of Yogyakarta’s Human Development Index (IPM) is quite high, at 89.53. The IPM contributions include a mean years of schooling of 12-13 years and an expected years of schooling of 17.67 years. Nevertheless, Hasto acknowledged a large homework to improve the quality of education and the skills of schoolchildren and the younger generation, given that Yogyakarta only has human resources and no natural resources.
