Education Ministry allocates Rp27.4 billion for Pontianak school revitalisation

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has allocated Rp27.4 billion in aid to revitalise educational facilities and infrastructure for 17 educational units in Pontianak City in 2025, as part of efforts to improve the quality of education services.

“The improved condition of schools demonstrates the government’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education. With adequate facilities, children will be more motivated to learn, and parents will be more supportive of the educational process,” said Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti, while witnessing the signing of an education cooperation agreement between the West Kalimantan provincial government and the Chinese government in Pontianak on Thursday.

According to him, the school revitalisation programme is part of the government’s policy to accelerate the equal distribution of quality education by providing proper and safe learning facilities for students.

Abdul Mu’ti explained that overall, the government has disbursed hundreds of billions of rupiah for the revitalisation of hundreds of educational units in West Kalimantan throughout 2025. The assistance covers various levels of education, from early childhood education to secondary schools, including the construction of new school units and the improvement of special education facilities.

He assessed that the availability of adequate educational facilities is a crucial factor in supporting the teaching and learning process while simultaneously improving the quality of human resources in the region.

Meanwhile, for the 2026 assistance programme, the ministry is still in the process of verifying prospective aid recipients in West Kalimantan, targeting 1,227 educational units. Specifically in Pontianak City, 14 schools are in the pipeline for aid distribution in 2026, with most having reached the stage of signing cooperation agreements and fund disbursement.

“Progress is ongoing for Pontianak City. Hopefully, the number of schools receiving assistance can continue to grow,” he said.

The government hopes the school revitalisation programme will create a more comfortable and high-quality learning environment, while supporting the improvement of education standards and the development of competitive human resources in West Kalimantan.
