Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu’ti wants the Modern Muhammadiyah Boarding School (MBS) Islamic boarding school in Kertek, Wonosobo Regency, Central Java, to become one of the centres for developing character education and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

After inaugurating the Modern Muhammadiyah Boarding School (MBS) Kertek in Wonosobo on Saturday, he assessed that the boarding school-based education system has advantages in shaping the character of students.

Through life in the boarding school environment, he said, the students not only receive academic learning but also undergo habituation of Islamic values, discipline, responsibility and independence in daily life.

He encouraged education at MBS Kertek to continue to be developed by integrating religious education, character education, and mastery of science and technology.

“We hope that this boarding school will continue to be an excellent educational service and can produce a generation that is faithful, knowledgeable and of noble character, who are skilled and also have leadership abilities to advance the nation and state,” he said.

“The four-storey MBS building with a construction period of 150 working days cost Rp5 billion for the building and other facilities, then Rp1.6 billion for land purchase, totalling Rp6.6 billion,” he said.

He said that to support the current MBS programme, it already has programmes for study in Cairo and Medina.

“God willing, starting next year in 2027/2028 we will send 4-6 children to study abroad, and we hope that the results we achieve and produce from this MBS can be beneficial for the people of Wonosobo and its surroundings and for the community in general,” he said.
