Education Minister Takes Concrete Steps to Create Safe and Comfortable Schools
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Education and Culture, Research, and Technology Minister Abdul Mu'ti has taken a number of concrete strategic steps to prevent and address students' mental health in order to foster a safe and comfortable school culture.
“As the policy foundation, we have also issued Permendikdasmen No. 6 of 2026 on Safe and Comfortable School Culture, and Ministerial Decree No. 17 of 2026. These two policies form the basis for schools to create a conducive learning environment that supports students' mental health,” Mu'ti said in Central Jakarta on Friday.
Besides these two measures, Mu'ti said, the ministry is also improving human resource management in schools. He noted that the approach to mental health is not solely the responsibility of guidance and counselling (BK) teachers, but should be extended to all teachers in the school.
Moreover, he explained, the Ministry is strengthening the monitoring and evaluation system through the use of the Education Report Card data as the basis for continuous improvement. The digitisation of case reports, he continued, is also being carried out to speed up handling and improve data accuracy.
On student character development, Mu'ti said the Ministry has programmes, including the Seven Habits Movement for Great Indonesian Children, Seven Keys to a Great School, and the Guardian Teacher policy. Other programmes that support this include Healthy School, which focuses on five health aspects: physical health, immunisation, mental health, fitness, and environmental health.
“The Ministry also encourages active student participation through the Rukun Sama Teman Movement. Other efforts include holding flag-raising ceremonies that incorporate the Pancasila Student Pledge, and scouting activities that develop spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical values,” Mu'ti said.
Mu'ti also explained that the Ministry has published the Great Character Habit Module for use in cocurricular activities. This module, he said, is designed to strengthen students' character and competitiveness, thereby also supporting students' mental health.
