Education Minister Proposes Additional Rp 40.75 Trillion Budget for School Revitalisation

Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) held a working meeting with Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu’ti. During the meeting, Abdul Mu’ti proposed an additional budget of Rp 40.75 trillion. Abdul Mu’ti initially stated that his ministry had received an indicative ceiling of Rp 58.24 trillion. The breakdown of this ceiling includes Rp 2.69 trillion for mandatory spending on salaries and operations, and Rp 55.5 trillion for national priority programmes. “Based on the joint letter on the indicative ceiling from the Minister of Finance and the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education received an indicative ceiling of Rp 58.24 trillion,” Abdul said during the working meeting at Commission X of the DPR, Jakarta, Wednesday (17/6/2026). He then detailed the indicative ceiling allocation for national priority programmes, which includes Rp 14.28 trillion for the construction and revitalisation of educational units, Rp 250 billion for school equipment assistance, Rp 7.21 trillion for integrated national schools, Rp 40 billion for the Teacher Studio programme, and Rp 5.83 trillion for the digitalisation of learning. Additionally, there is a budget allocation of Rp 14.09 trillion for allowances for non-civil servant teachers, and Rp 13.79 trillion for the Smart Indonesia Programme (Program Indonesia Pintar). Other allocations in the form of Non-Tax State Revenue/Public Service Agency funds amount to Rp 39.85 billion. “With the indicative ceiling allocation having been designated for the above purposes, we propose obtaining additional budget to finance other programmes,” he said. “To that end, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has submitted a request for an additional budget for the 2027 fiscal year amounting to Rp 40.75 trillion to the Minister of Finance, the Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Bappenas, and the Minister of State Secretariat via a letter from the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education,” he continued.
