Education Minister applauds private schools for delivering quality education

Jakarta - The reality of education in Indonesia includes prestigious schools with large student numbers, but also some with only a handful of applicants. Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti has praised private schools for collaborating to deliver quality education and strengthen the national education ecosystem. The minister stated that Indonesia’s education challenges are diverse, requiring support and cooperation from all parties. “The reality of education in Indonesia includes prestigious schools with large student numbers, but also some with only a handful of applicants,” said Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti in a written statement on Sunday in Jakarta. Abdul Mu’ti also stressed the crucial role of private schools within the national education system. He said private schools and the government must work hand-in-hand to expand access and improve education quality. The minister added that mutual support among education providers aligns with the National Education System Act (UU Sisdiknas), which guarantees every citizen’s right to quality education. He further stated that education must not be limited to cognitive aspects alone but must shape students’ character and integrity. “Education is not merely about teaching students to solve problems or acquire technical skills; it must also cultivate integrity, nationalism, and a commitment to contributing to the nation,” the minister said.
