Education law needs

Education law needs
to be explained

From Media Indonesia

The new National Education Law has been produced through the
mutual consent of the government and the House of
Representatives; therefore its implementation should be supported
by people from all walks of life.

Sadly, there remain dissatisfaction, objection and rejection
on the part of our fellow citizens in Sorong regency and several
cities in eastern Indonesia, particularly with regard to Article
13(a) and the terms "faith, piety and character".

Such dissatisfaction could be overcome if the government acted
more proactively in explaining the law to the public. If
necessary, some of the important provisions to which there is
public objection should be properly explained.

For the maintenance of national integrity, the issue of
religious education should not trigger political conflict between
various groups and communities in Indonesia.
