Education Day to honor dedication

JAKARTA: The government will present on Thursday a heap of
awards to people and local institutions for their dedication to
education.

President Megawati will observe National Education Day at the
State Palace on Thursday by presenting the Widya Karma awards to
30 regencies and mayoralties for their success in implementing
the mandatory nine-year basic school program.

Earlier in the day, Minister of National Education Abdul Malik
Fajar will award 178 employees of his ministry with Satya Lencana
medals during a ceremony at the ministry compound.

Alongside the annual National Education Day celebration, the
government will also pay tribute to teachers who serve in remote
areas, as well as outstanding students and teachers. -- JP
