Education bill to be endorsed next year

JAKARTA: Minister of National Education A. Malik Fadjar said on Wednesday that the education bill would be endorsed next year although the bill had no really contentious articles.

He said that the bill should undergo at least two rounds of discussions in the House of Representatives (DPR) before it was passed into law.

"Besides, the government wants to use National Education Day next year as the time for endorsing the bill," Malik told journalists after a hearing with House Commission VI on human resources and religious affairs.

National Education Day falls on May 2.

Meanwhile, legislator M. Irsyad Sudiro from the Golkar faction said on Wednesday that the deliberation of the bill should be completed by the end of the year.

The current House session will end on Nov. 29. --JP
