Education agency opens hot line for parents

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Elementary Education Agency has established a hot line to allow parents to log complaints about school fees and admission policies.

Agency deputy head Maman Achdiat said the agency had received numerous complaints about school fees. However, he said it was difficult for the agency to check the complaints because school principals always denied allegations leveled against their schools by parents.

"We opened the hot line to accommodate parents' complaints and guarantee that their identity will be kept confidential to avoid any problems in the future," Maman said over the weekend.

Parents can call 021-8194751 to speak to the agency head, 021- 85909859 to lodge complaints about problems at state junior high schools and 021-8195380 to file complaints about problems at state elementary schools. -- Antara
