The Indonesian Editors’ Forum (Forum Pemred) held the ‘FP Run for Good Journalism 2026’ at Atma Jaya Catholic University in Jakarta on Sunday (18 October). This year’s theme was ‘The Press for the Public’.

The event was attended by Communications and Digital Affairs Minister Meutya Hafid, Deputy Communications and Digital Affairs Minister Angga Raka Prabowo, Press Council chairman Komaruddin Hidayat and other stakeholders.

Meutya welcomed the event. She said that in a digital era flooded with information, the theme ‘The Press for the Public’ reminded everyone that journalism serves the public interest.

“That means all news and information shared with the public must be verified, cross-checked and checked again. The public should receive the most accurate information,” Meutya said.

She said the theme was also apt for a fun run, as the world of racing was closely connected to the media industry.

“The press has to move quickly, especially now that social media is here. Conventional media and social media must strengthen the ecosystem together,” Meutya said.

“Running ultimately helps us stay healthy. This reminds us that the journalism industry must remain healthy amid a host of serious challenges,” she added.

Angga Raka Prabowo, meanwhile, reiterated the importance of the press in presenting clear, factual information and producing accurate reporting that the public can trust.

“With so much information circulating, the Indonesian press and our journalist colleagues have an important role to play in ensuring the public receives clear and reliable information,” Angga said.

Press Council chairman Komaruddin Hidayat said the fun run helped keep the mind and body healthy and the heart happy.

Forum Pemred chair Retno Pinasti said ‘Run for Good Journalism’ aimed to promote quality journalism and bring the press community closer to the public.

This was the event’s second year.

Retno said the ‘The Press for the Public’ theme had been chosen in response to growing public doubts about the integrity of mainstream media.

“This is being widely discussed on social media. Yet amid waves of disinformation and opinion, the role of the press is becoming even more crucial: it must verify which information is factual and which is false,” said Retno, editor-in-chief of SCTV and Indosiar.

She hoped all stakeholders would support one another and work together to sustain quality and credible journalism.

Through FP Run for Good Journalism, Forum Pemred hopes to reach as many people as possible and hear their views, including their expectations and suggestions for improving the Indonesian press today.

FP Run for Good Journalism 2026 organising committee chair Masirom said 500 people took part, including national media editors-in-chief, press communities, members of the public and others.

At the event, Forum Pemred also provided assistance to the families of five journalists who went missing while covering the Anak Krakatau eruption in September 2026. The support was offered as a gesture of solidarity with fellow journalists.
