SAMARINDA, South Kalimantan: The chief editor of the weekly tabloid Dayak Post, Minhayuddin MH, has been charged as a suspect for defaming the Prophet Muhammad in his articles.
Police investigator Chief Comr. Hisbullah said on Wednesday that the police had reached this conclusion after thoroughly evaluating the articles published in the tabloid.
"We have charged him as a suspect because his articles could enrage Muslims," he said.
Minhayuddin refused to sign the case file, however, arguing that his articles were based on fact. The police, however, refused to release him from detention.
In an article published early this month, Minhayuddin wrote that Muhammad's father Abdullah had two wives. Both wives gave birth to a son, one named Muhammad and another named Achmad.
Muhammad died shortly after birth and Achmad survived, and became known as the Prophet. - Antara
