Edi meets with Yangon generals

BANGKOK (AFP): Visiting Indonesian Defense Minister Gen.
(ret.) Edi Sudrajat held talks in Yangon on Thursday with senior
Myanmarese military junta members including its chief, Gen. Than
Shwe, state-run Myanmarese radio said.

Than Shwe, head of the Myanmarese Defense Services, is also
prime minister and the chairman of the State Law and Order
Restoration Council (SLORC) -- the official name of the ruling
military regime.

The meeting, held at Yangon's defense ministry, was also
attended by the SLORC's Vice Chairman, Gen. Maung Aye, chief of
staff (army) Lt. Gen. Tin Oo, military intelligence chief Lt.
Gen. Khin Nyunt, Foreign Minister Ohn Gyaw and Indonesian
diplomats in Yangon, Radio Yangon said in a broadcast monitored
here.

It gave no details of the meeting, which was also attended by
military attaches from both sides.

Gen. Edi, who heads a high-level delegation, arrived in the
Myanmarese capital on Wednesday for an official goodwill visit,
the report said.
